Returns for around 23% of properties liable to the Local Property Tax (LPT) have not yet been made, nearly a week after the deadline for submission.
Revenue said it has received LPT returns for 1.5 million properties, representing 77% of the expected numbers of properties that returns for the tax should not have been made for.
Payment arrangements are also in place for an additional 220,000 properties where returns are not yet filed, giving an overall payment compliance rate of 88%.
Last Wednesday was the deadline for the submission of the returns, after it was extended by three days to give owners more time to revalue their property – the first such a revaluation exercise since the tax was introduced eight years ago.
A detailed breakdown shows that almost 32% of property owners valued their property at €0-€200,000.
A further 22% declared their property is worth between €200,001 and €262,500.
20% submitted a valuation of between €262,501 and €350,000 for their property, while almost 11% said their property fell into the €350,001-€437,500 band.
Revenue said exemptions were claimed for 11,800 properties and deferrals sought for 9,300 properties.
91% of returns were made online, with annual or monthly direct debit accounting for more than half of the payment methods chosen.
906,500 of those who made returns were single property owners and 142,700 multi property owners.
€107m in local property tax has already been paid for 2022, Revenue said.
€368m in new payment arrangements have also been put in place for 2022 and a further €55m is secured through annualised methods, it added.
In advance of the extended deadline, Revenue said it had received 343,800 LPT related phone calls and over 70,000 items of correspondence from property owners.
The tax collector continues to process some of these and has reassured these property owners that they will be treated as having complied with their LPT obligations on time, provided they file their return promptly as soon as their query is resolved.
Revenue said those who did not file their LPT return by the extended deadline still have an obligation to do so and has strongly encouraged them to file their return immediately.
